This August, the Bard Music Festival returns for its 34th season with an intensive two-week exploration of “Berlioz and His World.” In eleven themed concert programs, the festival examines the life and times of visionary French composer Hector Berlioz, whose grand-scale works, startling sonorities, and advanced literary leanings helped redefine musical Romanticism.

Composed in 1779 by Christoph Willibald Gluck, and based on Euripides’ great Greek drama Iphigenia in Tauris, it is the powerful Trojan War-era tale of a sister whose duty requires that she kill a man who turns out to be her brother. Boston Baroque Presents Gluck's IPHIGENIE EN TAURIDE This April

Boston Baroque's 50th Season concludes with the much-anticipated annual staged opera with performances of Gluck's rarely-heard Iphigénie en Tauride. Performances will take place on Thursday, April 20 at 8pm, Friday, April 21 at 8pm, and Sunday, April 23 at 3pm at GBH's Calderwood Studio in Brighton, MA. The Friday evening performance will also be livestreamed on the global streaming platform IDAGIO, welcoming virtual audiences around the world alongside live studio audiences on site.
San Francisco Opera Announces Casting Update For Gluck's ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE

San Francisco Opera announced a cast change for its upcoming new production of Christoph Willibald Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice (Orfeo ed Euridice), opening November 15. Soprano Meigui Zhang will make her role debut as Eurydice, replacing Christina Gansch who is expecting her second child and has withdrawn from the production.

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato brings her latest innovative project to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Titled EDEN, the program explores our individual connection to nature and its impact on our world and features Ms. DiDonato’s frequent collaborators Maxim Emelyanychev leading Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro. Fusing music, movement, and theater, the program includes works spanning from the 17th to the 21st century by Handel, Gluck, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, and Copland, as well as the New York premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The First Morning of the World, commissioned specifically for this project.
